Standard Arabic or a dialect: what to learn first
Arabic is not one language used the same way everywhere. Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) is the written language of books, newspapers and formal speeches, understood across the Arab world. In daily life people speak a dialect: Egyptian and Levantine are the most widely understood, while Gulf and Maghrebi Arabic are used in their regions.
Most courses start with MSA and the alphabet: 28 letters, written from right to left, with short vowels usually left out. A tutor can then add the dialect you need, to speak with colleagues, family or neighbours in Dublin. Count on about 2,200 class hours for professional fluency, much less for basic exchanges.
Arabic lessons in Dublin City: prices and where to learn
Face-to-face Arabic teaching is found mainly in Dublin, Cork and Galway, through universities, cultural centres and mosques that run classes for adults, often at a modest price. A private tutor charges €25 to €45 an hour. Elsewhere in Dublin City, online lessons are the easy way in: native tutors from Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and beyond charge €10 to €30 an hour.
There is no single international Arabic exam as widespread as the DELE or the Goethe-Zertifikat. Universities set their own level tests, and some employers use proficiency interviews. Set your own milestones with your tutor: read a news headline, hold a five-minute conversation, write a short message.
Arabic courses by video: you choose a native or certified tutor for this language, book a first lesson at a low price, then set your own pace.

Arabic courses: three ways to make progress
One lesson a week, all year
The most common pace for adults: it keeps motivation up and gains about one level a year, as long as you practise a little between lessons.
A sprint before an exam
Three or four lessons a week for one or two months, focused on the exam format, past papers and timing.
Conversation only, to dare to speak
No textbook: you talk about your daily life, the news and your job, and the tutor corrects the mistakes that keep coming back.
Arabic courses in Dublin: common questions
How long does it take to learn the Arabic alphabet?
Two to four weeks with regular practice. Letters change shape depending on their position in the word, which looks daunting but follows clear rules. After that, reading slowly with vowel marks comes quickly; reading without them takes months of vocabulary.
Can I learn Quranic Arabic with a private tutor?
Yes. Many online tutors teach Quranic Arabic and tajweed, the rules of recitation, alongside Modern Standard Arabic. Say what you want at the first lesson: reading and recitation, understanding the text, or both.

💡 One tip before you book a tutor
Tell the tutor at the first lesson what you need the language for and by when: an exam, a trip, an interview, a move abroad. The following lessons are built around it, and you will quickly see whether their method suits you.
